So there was a race yesterday. I didn't enjoy the race. There's a lot to talk about at least.

The hot topic this week has to be Dixon’s penalty. I’ve seen a lot of arguments. I’ll make my case for why the penalty was the right call. A driver is allowed to drive through the edge of a pit box I agree to that. However, if you remember Mid Ohio 2012 Power is coming in ahead of Dixon and Dixon’s crew is setup. Power safely navigates around Dixon’s crew and ultimately loses the lead because of the extra time it took to get in to his box. Will couldn’t just ignore the RF tire changer and cut the box to get in to his pit stall.

Fast forward to 2013. Dixon is leaving his pit box and clearly cut through Power’s pit box on exit (race control said half a car width). I’ve seen a number of pit stops from the 12 team and that RR tire changer mostly does the same thing every time. It is Dixon’s responsibility to avoid that tire changer (even if he was being careless) just like it was Power’s responsibility to avoid Dixon’s crewman in 2012 at Mid Ohio. Ultimately you could argue that the swap of positions at Mid Ohio cost Power the title. Maybe this costs Dixon the title who knows. (Though I would argue Briscoe getting the win at Sonoma in 2012 cost Power the title.

Also note that those painted pit stalls are for the Cup race, not the Indycar race.

You HAVE to avoid the pit crew as a driver. That's a person carrying that tire and their life is more important than a title. They should park Dixon for the next race for his comments afterward.
